"Luke presented us with a choice of designs, with the idea of drawing the surroundings into our garden and fulfilling our wish to attract more wildlife into the space.”

This was a new build town house so a slightly sloped blank canvas to work with.  The client was keen to develop a lushly planted space with a dining terrace and a separate cosy relaxed seating area within planting.

The contemporary scheme used a hard landscape palette of smooth sandstone paving, chunky locally sourced sandstone plank pavers and corten steel, and a decorative tile for the corner seating area.

The design included a smooth sandstone dining terrace by the house, then a step up into the main garden which was levelled.  The level change was clad with a corten steel edge offering a naturalistic yet contemporary finish.

A staggered path of chunky sandstone plank paving, with strips of gravel in between meandered round the garden to a corner seating area, and looping round via a raised productive bed.

The planting was woodland edge themes with a number of small trees to create enclosure to the corner seating and create vertical interest to the space
