Gateshead - Town House

This is an attractive 3 storey town house with a long narrow garden.  However its wasn’t functionally useful for the client, as close to the house was small with a shed obscuring the view, and the lower garden was damp and unusable for the grandchildren, as well as not making the best use of the space.

The design sought to divide the garden into 4 rooms with a distinct function for each.  Nearest the house we put a sandstone terrace down, with a raised bed against the attractive bay window.  We also build a retaining wall to extend this top level and make a larger usable space and lawn.  We also improved the soil so a new lawn could thrive (previously struggled).

The second room below the new sandstone retaining wall, was a immersive circular seating area, surrounded by rich cottage garden planting with some fruiting trees.

The third room was a improved lawn, with drainage and a new hard paved path, and last a woodland garden below the existing trees and new step configuration to the road.
