Morpeth Family Town House
A grade II listed property in central Morpeth on the river by the iconic stepping stones.
The brief was to for a round family to have social spaces for the adults to socialise, as well as fun play areas for their children, that can be observed from the play areas. The garden was ‘cut in half’ by a listed heritage sandstone wall, so an important aspect was to unify the garden, creating circulation making the wall an asset rather than dominating there garden,.
This Georgian town house had recently had a contemporary extension on both sides of the property. The Garden concept reflected this contrast of ‘old and new’, to emphasise the beauty of both. The contrast was with material choices, design and form of the spaces, planting reusing existing sandstone, introducing corten steel, plank paving and smooth sandstone paving. Important aspect of the design was to Integrate the garden as a function whole with circulation routes through the listed central wall.
